Pilot Killed In Small Plane Crash In Modoc County Identified

Federal agencies are investigating a fatal plane crash that happened in Modoc County Tuesday afternoon. At 2:45PM a single engine plane used for cropdusting and hydro seeding went down about 5 miles northwest of the Community of Likely near County Road 60. The aircraft landed upside-down in a shallow lake. It was not carrying any pesticides at the time. The pilot was declared dead at the scene. He’s identified as 69-year-old Peter Spyres of Arbuckle. The plane is owned by Jones Flying Service of Biggs. Investigators with the FAA. and the NTSB. arrived on scene Wednesday.
