Public Input Sought On The Future Of Big League Dreams

The City of Redding is seeking ideas and proposals about the future of the sports park off Old Oregon Trail and Viking Way. A 23-year-old public/private partnership with Big League Dreams was terminated last July when the company ceased operations after failing to make contractually agreed upon improvements. Since then the Community Services Department has been managing the facilities, and they’ve apparently been doing a decent job of it, but there are at least $5 Million worth of immediate repairs needed and the city is facing a significant budget shortfall in its general fund. Input is sought from potential partners, funders, non-profits and businesses that can take on the capital investment and long-term management. Feedback is requested from anyone with experience managing similar facilities. Community Services Director Travis Menne can be reached at 530-225-4095.
