A Redding Area CHP Sergeant seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place, legally speaking. Sergeant Tim Hinkson apparently had a domestic violence restraining order issued against him on August 21st. A routine part of such an order requires that the restrained party not be in possession of guns. Any owned firearms must be stored with law enforcement or a licensed gun dealer. Hinkson returned his department-issued sidearm to the CHP, but he also privately owns a collection of more than a hundred guns. The trouble is that those guns are stored at his home, which he currently is prohibited from visiting due to the restraining order. The violation conflict will be addressed in a Shasta County court Friday.
