Another high level local elected official is retiring early due to stress-induced health concerns. Redding City Councilman Michael Daquisto announced at Tuesday night’s council meeting that he would be stepping down effective June 30th. The council has the options of either appointing someone to serve the short term until a replacement can be elected in November or calling a special election prior to that. The term runs through November of 2026. In his statement to the council, Daquisto decries the influence of Bethel Church, saying he believes that with their council majority they want to evict the Redding Rodeo from its home, push for housing on the riverfront, and stack the planning commission with allies. He describes his years on the council as enlightening, encouraging, entertaining and often frustrating.
