Redding Doctor Appointed As New County Health Officer

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors has appointed a new County Health Officer. On Tuesday the board approved a contract with Doctor James Mu. The county has been without a Health Officer since May of last year when the board voted 3 to 2 to fire Doctor Karen Ramstrom without cause. Doctor Mu is at least the fourth candidate interviewed in the last few months. He has had a private medical practice in Shasta County for the past 30 years. He will need to further his education to be certified in public health administration. During the Covid pandemic, Dr. Mu was one of the outspoken Redding doctors who opposed mask requirements and vaccination campaigns. He’ll be paid a salary of $18,500 per month.
