Redding Doctor Convicted Of Battery, Sentenced To Probation

A Redding Gynecologist who was accused of sexual battery last year has been convicted by a Shasta County jury of the lesser charge of battery. Dr. Jorge Pena was arraigned last October for misdemeanor sexual battery and misdemeanor battery. In 2022 a nurse accused Dr. Pena of touching her inappropriately in a work setting at Mercy Medical Center. The jury was not unanimously convinced that the contact was done for sexual gratification, but they found him guilty of misdemeanor battery. The District Attorney’s Office has apparently declined to retry the case. He was sentenced on Monday to a year of probation and a 30 day work program. He also must have no contact with the victim in the case. Dignity Health has apparently suspended Pena from working at Mercy Medical Center.
