Redding’s Veterans Home celebrated its 10th anniversary this week. The state-run veterans home has 150 beds, 90 of which are for senior assisted living. Military veterans aged 55 or older are eligible, although the age requirement can be waived for those with service-related disabilities. Spouses of living veterans can also apply. Some costs are recouped by the state from those who can afford it. Residents are expected to pay up to 55 percent of their income. The 88-Million Dollar vet’s home was plagued with funding problems that delayed its opening for years. The home is operated by the California Department of Veterans Affairs.
