Shasta County voters are waiting for full election results as officials work to complete the ballot canvass. Shasta County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Tom Toller says that in California counties have up to 28 days to finalize federal election canvassing and 30 days for local elections. This process includes verifying each eligible ballot, ensuring voters only voted once, and confirming accurate tabulation. Many of Shasta County’s vote-by-mail ballots arrived on November 4 and 5, with nearly 42,000 ballots needing signature verification before counting. As of Friday, approximately 66,722 ballots remain unprocessed, including provisional and challenged ballots that voters must “cure” by December 1st if additional information is requested. An estimated 12,734 ballots with minor issues also await duplication. Toller clarified that “100% of precincts reporting” on the website only refers to in-person election day ballots, with many vote-by-mail and provisional ballots still being processed. The Registrar’s Office thanks the public for their patience as they work to ensure each vote is accurately counted.
