At Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors Meeting, the Good News Rescue Mission will ask for $2.2 Million out of the Opioid settlement funds coming to the county coffers. Shasta County was one of 3,400 plaintiffs receiving money from the settlement from pharmaceutical companies. Just over $14 Million has been received so far by the county and installments will continue for a total of another $25 Million through 2039. The Rescue Mission is building a 75 bed residential substance use disorder treatment facility. They’ve been awarded a grant of $17.8 Million from the state but they need to put up matching funds of $2.2 Million. Previous funding to be used for that match proved ineligible so the Mission is turning to the county settlement funds. County staff has found that the grant would be allowed under all the requirements in the settlement.
