An exotic species of Mosquito is proving to be a hearty survivor in Shasta County. There have been increasing reports to Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control about the aggressive day-biting Aedis Aegypti, which is known to carry Yellow Fever and other deadly diseases. Those diseases have not been found in Shasta County but the mosquito arrived in 2020 and has been spreading during Summer and Fall months. Unlike most native mosquitos, the Aedis Aegypti prefers to breed in smaller habitats, such as saucers or even bottle caps. Residents are urged to eliminate standing water.
