An expanded Rodeo Week gets underway Thursday with some major events. Buckaroo Flats is the area between the Asphalt Cowboys Clubhouse and the Rodeo Arena. That’ll be the scene of a real Hootenany. It includes the Chili Cookoff, with tasting and judging at 6 O’clock. The Quick Draw Competition is at 6PM. Those who want to participate need to bring their own 357 or 38 caliber revolver in a holster, but without ammunition. Blanks will be provided by the cowboys. The Street Dance starts at 7 O’clock and wraps up around 10PM. All of these events are free. Next week comes the Special Kids Day and the Kiddie Pet Parade on Monday, the bank robbery on Tuesday and of course the famous Pancake Breakfast downtown next Friday. The Asphalt Cowboys Rodeo Parade is next Saturday in Downtown Redding. The Rodeo Parade has been a part of Rodeo Week since 1949 and there’s no entry fee. A schedule of all the Rodeo Week events, can be found at asphaltcowboys.org.
The rodeo itself is celebrating its 75th year next Wednesday through Saturday. The Rodeo Association hosts a Steak Feed this Saturday starting at 6 O’clock at the Rodeo Arena, and a Rodeo Clinic for women called “Chicks and Chaps” next Friday from 10AM to 2PM. Rodeo tickets and details are at reddingrodeo.com.
