RPD Captures Wanted Man After Brief Standoff In Downtown Redding

A wanted man who was seen in Downtown Redding Tuesday night was eventually captured after a standoff. An RPD Officer saw 33-year-old Daniel Gregory in the passenger seat of a Dodge Magnum driven by 28-year-old Keri Wilkes-Nicholson. Gregory had outstanding warrants for felony evading and assault with a firearm. The officer followed the car into a residential area as the Dodge began making quick erratic turns to get away. The officer lost sight of the car, and then found it in the parking lot of some apartments on Willis Street. Gregory had fled but Wilkes-Nicholson was in the car, allegedly along with a loaded gun and a large quantity of drugs. She was taken into custody as a witness told officers which apartment Gregory had gone into. The place was surrounded, and one of the occupants told officers that Gregory was hiding inside. Police say that after unsuccessfully trying to sneak out a back window, Gregory holed up in a back room and refused to budge. The SWAT Tam was called but before they got there the Crisis Intervention Response Team convinced Gregory to surrender. Wilkes-Nicholson is still in jail, but Gregory is not listed as an inmate.
