The Redding Police Community Work Program has been busy clearing homeless camps around town. Officers supervise the clean-ups with crews made up of people working off sentences through the Shasta County Alternative Custody Program. In the last few weeks they’ve cleared 38,000 pounds of debris, trash and belongings from the Turtle Bay area, Henderson Road, Nur Pon Open Space, Bechelli Lane, Victor Avenue, the ACID Canal near Cypress Avenue and Locust Street, and the greenbelt behind Enterprise High School. So far this year the crews have collected more than 607,000 pounds of material.
