RPD: Driver Huffing Nitrous Canister Crashes After Short Chase

Redding Police chased a man until his car wound up on its roof Tuesday afternoon. At around 1PM an officer on Benton Drive near Loma Street saw a Toyota Camry on the side of the road and he recognized the car and the driver, 39-year-old Chan Saechin. He had apparently been arrested the day before for huffing nitrous oxide while sitting in that same car, which had been impounded. The officer says that as he got closer he saw that Saechin was again huffing from a nitrous canister. He reportedly fled, leading the officer on a short chase that ended when he rear-ended a City of Redding pickup truck and flipped over. Police say they approached the side of the car and found Saechin upside-down still huffing on the nitrous canister. He was booked into jail on several charges.
