RPD: Man Arrested For Grand Theft After Chase Through Redding

A grand theft suspect was captured in Redding after a high speed chase that started on Interstate 5. At 1:30PM Tuesday afternoon a CHP Officer tried to pull over a speeding Honda Civic with expired registration on Southbound I-5 south of Oasis Road. The driver sped up, turned around at Lake Boulevard and doubled back to Pine Grove, then headed south again. The ground units had stopped chasing the Honda but an aircraft continued tracking it until it stopped on Lake Boulevard and the driver jumped out and ran down a gully toward Lost Lane. When he reached the bottom he was met by Redding Police. He was easy to spot in his pink Nike sweatsuit with an anti-theft device still attached. The garments had been taken as part of a retail grand theft heist from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Officers say he also had Psilocybin mushrooms.
