Even when a scam is already well known, when someone who has heard of it happening to others gets a call themselves, it’s still alarmingly convincing. A familiar but effective telephone scam has been reported to Redding Police. Over the past several days there have multiple reports locally of calls made by someone claiming to represent the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. The caller demands that the victim send money to clear active arrest warrants. Redding Police say no law local enforcement agency would ever make such a demand over the phone. Anyone who receives a call like this is advised to hang up and call the real cops at 225-4200.
