A driver died Sunday night in an East Redding crash that’s still under investigation. At around 11 O’clock a GMC Sierra 1500 pickup was northbound on Churn Creek Road and had just passed Presidio Drive and was on the Highway 44 Overcrossing at an unknown speed When the driver failed to make the turn and slid into the guardrail on the west side of the road. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and the impact caused him to become partially ejected as the truck continued sliding along the rail before stopping south of Dana Drive. Redding Police Traffic Investigators say alcohol and high speed were both factors in the collision. After the crash the passenger got out and was found walking northbound uninjured. The road was closed for an extended time for the investigation. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact the RPD Traffic Division.
