RPD: Two Arrested After Traffic Stop Uncovers 800 Pounds Of Cannabis

Redding Police arrested two people after a traffic stop uncovered around 800 Pounds of Cannabis. Very early on Saturday morning Redding Police Officers pulled over a pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer on I-5 near South Bonnyview Road for vehicle code violations. During the stop, officers noticed a strong odor of Marijuana coming from the trailer. Upon inspection, they discovered it was packed with 55-Gallon trash bags containing approximately 800 Pounds of processed Marijuana. As officers investigated, a female passenger attempted to flee by moving to the driver’s seat but was quickly detained. Both individuals, identified as 24-year-old Jose Mendoza-Hernandez from Kern County and Anabel Bentancourt-Meraz of Corning, were arrested without incident. A loaded, unregistered 9MM pistol was also found during the search. They now face charges including Marijuana trafficking, possession for sale, and firearm-related offenses.
