Two Redding Police patrol vehicles were wrecked while officers tried to stop a stolen pickup truck early Wednesday morning. At around 5AM, a resident of Wilson Avenue off Shasta View Drive reported that his Chevy Duramax with a flatbed trailer attached had just been stole from his home. The owner tracked the truck’s location and officers tried to stop it, but the driver fled at high speed after crashing into a parked car. He also swerved to try and run over an RPD Officer who was laying down a spike strip in the roadway. The chase ended near the south end of Henderson Road at Wilshire, where the driver intentionally rammed the pickup into an RPD Dodge Charger and an RPD Ford Interceptor SUV. The truck then crashed through a fence and both occupants fled on foot. The passenger was quickly caught by Duke the K9. He was hospitalized for his dog bites and other injuries. The driver ran onto the Riverview Golf Course and tried to hide in a pond, but he was apprehended as well. Both of them are male juvenile probationers from Orland, and the driver had a Glenn County warrant for robbery.
