A family was rescued in a remote area of Northern Shasta County after getting stuck in the snow. Thursday afternoon a man called 9-1-1 from Bunchgrass West Road and said he, a woman and a 3-year-old child had gone to play in the snow on Twin Bridges Road off Highway 89 but their car slid off the road and got stuck. He had to walk a mile and a half to get cell phone service and then hiked back to the car to wait for help to arrive. Shasta County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Jeep Patrol Volunteers followed the man’s cell phone coordinates and helped the family get their car back to the highway. The Sheriff’s Office says it’s important to be prepared when heading out into snowy areas. It’s smart to take extra food, water, blankets and warm clothing, and know how to install tire chains. It’s also a good idea to let someone know where you’re going and when you’re coming back.
