Second Teen Sentenced After Failed Attack On Evergreen Middle School

A second teenager has been sentenced in the planned attack on the Evergreen Middle School in Cottonwood. The 14-year-old was was initially found guilty of three felonies – conspiracy to commit murder, possession of materials with intent to construct a destructive device and possession of a destructive device. According to the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office, the teenager was sentenced to 364 days in Juvenile Hall, and was adjudicated a ward of the court and was placed on probation for an indefinite period of time. The DA’s Office added that the 14-year-old must complete a program called the Changing Armor. It is an in-custody 180 or 120 day program for youth between the ages of 16-20. It uses a five phase, points-based program that focuses on (a)ttitude, (r)esponsibility, (m)otivation, (o)utlook and (r)espect. The DAs Office said the purpose of the program is to help youth to take responsibility for their actions and develop new life and coping skills. The 14-year-old also has to comply with other terms as required by the Juvenile Probation Department. They remain in custody. The other teen in the planned attack was sentenced in July to four years in secure youth treatment with a maximum time of confinement of up to seven years.
