The Sacramento River is hardly ever the best escape route, especially in January. At 1:45PM Tuesday afternoon, State Parole Agents called for assistance. They had contacted Gregory White, a registered sex offender whose GPS tracked ankle bracelet hadn’t been maintained. White apparently ran from the agents and jumped in the river, swimming through the frigid water to an island north of the Cypress Avenue Bridge. The CHP watched White from the air as Redding Police reached the island with the new RPD river boat. They found White suffering from hypothermia and he was treated at a hospital before being booked into jail.
