The multi-agency Shasta Arson Task Force did two different types of operations last week. On Tuesday they made 29 contacts with homeless people to advise them about the dangers of illegal campfires. They also connected them with resources to help them overcome their difficulties in being unsheltered. On Friday the task force conducted an “Operation Spark Arrestor” sweep, doing compliance checks on registered arson offenders. 20 offenders were contacted and 16 were found to be following the rules of their probation or parole. Four of them will have cases filed against them for failing to renew their registration after moving. One other person was cited for drug and fireworks violations and another was cited for illegal burning.
