Forging ahead with just three members, the Shasta County Citizens Election Advisory Commission will meet Monday. The powerless commission was established last year with 5 members, one appointed by each supervisor. The appointees for Mary Rickert and Tim Garmin both resigned earlier this year. At the last board of supervisors meeting the appointment of Nathan “Blaze” Pinkney, who had been nominated by Tim Garman, failed on a 3 to 2 vote. Garman has announced his intention to appoint Benjamin Nowain to the commission. Nowain is an employee of the County Department of Health and Human Services. He’s also a frequent commenter at supervisors meetings. On Monday the commission will again discuss making recommendations to the board that are in violation of state law, including review of ballots by non-elections department personnel and adoption of a hand tally system for elections.
