Shasta County DA Says Prop 36 Has Led To 39 Felony Cases, 2 Prison Sentences

The Shasta County District Attorney’s Office has hit the ground running with Proposition 36, using it as an effective tool to greatly increase penalties for criminal acts. The law approved by voters in November went into effect on December 18th, and since then the DA’s Office has filed 39 felony cases that would have been misdemeanors prior to the change in the law. 36 of the cases are still being adjudicated. The other three have led to felony pleas, and two have already been sentenced to prison.
