A new website to fight suicide has been launched by Shasta County Health and Human Services. Between 2017 and 2021 the county’s age-adjusted suicide rate was 25.6 per 100,000 people, which is well over double the rate for California. The site is youmattershasta.org and it connects members of the community with mental health and crisis resources to support oneself or a loved one. It reinforces the efforts of the Shasta Suicide Prevention Collaborative, working together to decrease suicide through advocacy, education, training and evaluation. There’s also a national suicide and crisis lifeline available by calling 9-8-8 on any phone.
