Shasta County May Hire New CEO At Tuesday’s Meeting

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors may have found their new County Executive Officer. Former CEO Matt Pontes resigned last June after a controversy in which Board Chair Patrick Jones apparently threatened to publicly reveal a conviction in Pontes’ past. The rest of the board already knew about the conviction because it had been disclosed during the hiring process for Pontes. He has since taken a job with Sierra Pacific Industries. There have been two acting CEO’s in the interim. An attempt was made to hire a controversial candidate from Orange County but he proved to have too much personal and professional baggage for the board’s liking. The new candidate who may be approved during Tuesday evening’s meeting is David Rickert. He was the Treasurer of Kane County, Illinois for 22 years and more recently was Chief Financial Officer for Winnebago County, Illinois.
