Shasta County Superior Court Announces New Parking Plan For Jurors

While the Shasta County Superior Court makes an effort to provide more dedicated parking for citizens serving jury duty, they’ve been looking for alternatives. They’ve now worked out a deal with the privately-owned California Street Garage, which is two blocks away across the railroad tracks. Effective immediately jurors can park in the multi-level structure and take the ticket issued when they enter the garage and get it validated at the jury assembly room. It’s not necessary to display the juror parking permit. The Oregon Street parking lot is still available, but it tends to fill up quickly. The court had been trying to convince the City of Redding to grant a pause in the enforcement of parking in the immediate area surrounding the new courthouse. The street-side parking meters were made active on the day before the courthouse first opened to the public, and the city has shown no mercy in streetside parking enforcement. Another alternative is a service that’s been in place since 1997 that allows anyone with a jury summons to use RABA for free, on fixed routes as well as demand response. Details are at rabaride.com.
