Shasta County Supervisors Approve Pay Raise Of Nearly 46%

Amid all the noise from other issues during the Shasta County Board of Supervisors meeting on Tuesday, the board approved a very large pay raise for future board members. Next January the current salary of $4,459 per month will be boosted to $6,535 per month, representing an increase of around 46%. They will also get a $5,000 annual vehicle allowance. The board member salary has not increased in 22 years, and in 2010 the salary was cut by 2% because of recession-triggered belt tightening measures. The ordinance passed by a 3 to 1 vote, with Kevin Crye dissenting. The pay raise ordinance also includes a provision for automatic future pay increases that would match the percentage given to the county’s UPEC unionized employees.
