Tehama County Sheriff Dave Kain and his department are engaged in a war of words versus the county’s Chief Administrator Gabriel Hydrick being played out in the media. Sheriff’s Department staff have been in stalled contract negotiations, leading the unions representing deputies and managers to claim harsh budget cuts and issue a vote of no confidence in Hydrick. He responded with a public statement countering the claims and detailing expenditures including carpeting, lighting, landscaping and 20 new cars. The Sheriff says Hydrick is being dishonest and budgeted funds are not keeping up with operating costs. The two continue to contradict each other, with no resolution in sight for the contract dispute.
