Shooting Suspect Shot & Killed By Chico Police After Standoff

Chico Police shot a man dead over the weekend. 43-year-old Michael Oxley was suspected of shooting George Ramirez, a Chico barber. Ramirez was sitting in his car at the Chico Farmer’s Market parking lot Friday evening when he was shot multiple times from behind. He remains in critical condition. A Chico Police investigation determined Oxley to be the shooter. He was an Airbnb guest at a student housing complex on Nord Avenue. Saturday evening the SWAT Team swept into the complex and tried to take Oxley into custody but he fled into his apartment, then to a parking structure. He was there for two hours armed with a pistol with a high capacity magazine as police tried to negotiate his surrender. Eventually he stood up and fired at police. Six officers returned fire and killed him.
