Smokejumper Hospitalized After Suffering From Heat Exhaustion

A Forest Service Smokejumper had to be hospitalized after suffering heat exhaustion in Klamath National Forest Wednesday morning. The wildland firefighter was one of ten smokejumpers who parachuted into the Marble Fire, which was first spotted July 1st in steep terrain within the Marble Mountains Wilderness. The rest of the crew extinguished the two acre fire and hiked out of the wilderness Wednesday. Since Memorial Day there have been 41 fires in the Klamath, 38 of them sparked by lightning and 3 of them human caused. Crews have held all but four of them to less than an acre, and none exceeded two acres.
