Crews are nearing containment on many Northern California lightning fires, largely thanks to the recent rains.
The 28,400 acre Happy Camp Complex is 57% contained. Fires on the east side of the complex, including the Head and Scott Fires, are nearly contained. to the west, firefighters have prevented the 12,200 acre Elliot Fire from spreading north toward Happy Camp, keeping it west of Highway 96 and south of Clear Creek. 9 structures have been destroyed in the complex and 336 are still considered threatened. 20 people are still evacuated. There’s been one civilian fatality.
More than 2,500 personnel remain on the Smith River Complex near Crescent City. The complex has burned more than 85,500 acres with 19% overall containment.
The Deep Fire northwest of Trinity Lake is still at 60% containment after burning 4,200 acres.
