Southbound I-5 Open After Big Rig Fire Near Dog Creek

Traffic was slowed on Southbound Interstate 5 north of Lakehead Tuesday night due to a big rig fire. A little before 9 O’clock the truck crashed for reasons that are unclear while on the bridge over Dog Creek near Fenders Ferry Road. The resulting fire burned much of the trailer and disabled the truck, though the fire was out within about ten minutes. An unknown quantity of Diesel spilled from the truck’s burst fuel tanks and flowed down storm drains into Dog Creek and the Sacramento River. The driver was apparently uninjured. The slow lane of the freeway was closed until crews were able to clear the mess.
