State AG Investigating Officer Involved Shooting In Hoopa

The State Attorney General is investigating a shooting by a CHP Officer that left an unarmed man dead in Hoopa. The AG’s Office is required by law to investigate officer involved shootings when the decedent is not armed. Sunday morning the officer tried to stop a Volkswagen Jetta with a broken windshield and malfunctioning lights. The driver went about a quarter mile before stopping, then fled on foot. The officer chased him for about 200 yards, then there was a confrontation during which the officer apparently used a Taser on the suspect before shooting him with multiple rounds. The officer suffered a serious head injury and a bite wound in the fight.
