State Attorney General Reacts To Parental Notification Policy Passed By Anderson High School District

A forced outing policy for transgender and non-binary students passed last week by the Anderson Union High School District Board of Trustees may bring a lawsuit from California Attorney General Rob Bonta. The AG issued a statement about the Anderson Friday, and mentioned them again Monday while announcing a lawsuit against a district in Chino Valley. Both policies require that parents be notified if a student requests to be addressed by a name or pronoun other than what appears on their birth certificate. Bonta’s suit alleges that such an action violates students’ civil rights by exposing them to mental, emotional and physical abuse. The mandatory parental notification rule may end up as a statewide ballot initiative.
