State Attorney General Threatens Legal Action After Passage Of Parental Notification Policy

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is threatening legal action against schools that adopt parental notification policies such as one recently adopted by Anderson Union High School District. The policy requires that parents be told if a student requests to be addressed by a name or pronoun other than what appears on their birth certificate. Several Southern California school districts that adopted such a policy are being investigated for potentially violating the civil rights of trans or non-binary students. The AG’s Office says more than half of such students surveyed have seriously considered suicide in the past year.
