The official California State Christmas Tree to be displayed at the capitol will be felled Tuesday near Whitmore. It’s become a yearly tradition to harvest the state tree from the Latour State Forest. It’ll be cut down at 10:30AM Tuesday morning and carried by truck through Whitmore to Redding, then down Interstate 5 Tuesday. The 60-foot Fir Tree will arrive in Sacramento to be set up on the west lawn of the capitol. It’ll be decorated with 10,000 LED lights and around 200 ornaments handmade by developmentally disabled clients of the State Developmental Services Department. Permits for cutting Christmas Trees in Latour State Forest are available by calling 530-225-2418.
