Substitute Teacher Arrested After Reportedly Exposing Himself To Anderson School Children

A substitute teacher was banished from Anderson Middle School Tuesday and arrested after students reported indecent exposure. During Period 2 of Mr. Costello’s 6th grade class the substitute, identified as 32-year-old Stephen Canciani, allegedly had his pants and underwear pulled down to mid-thigh while seated at his desk in front of the class. Two students left class to tell the Vice Principal that a few students had seen the teacher’s buttocks and two students reported seeing frontal genital nudity. The Vice Principal went to the classroom and apparently saw that Canciani’s pants were still down. She told him to leave immediately and never to return to the Cascade School District. Anderson Police heard statements from several students and then got an arrest warrant for indecent exposure and annoying or molesting a child. Tuesday night Canciani surrendered at the Anderson Police Department. An investigation is underway to learn if he has worked at any other Shasta County schools.
