Shasta County schools are still in great need of more substitute teachers, and the County Office of Education is again trying to make it easier for applicants. In January the department announced that the “Basic Skills Requirement” was being waived. All that’s needed is a Bachelor’s Degree, verification of Tuberculosis clearance, fingerprints and a valid ID. Now the county says it will pick up the tab for fingerprinting as well. Once the requirements are completed, substitute teachers can work at any of the county’s 24 school districts, making an average of around $150 per day.
