The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will consider a resolution Tuesday that seems designed to deny services to immigrant asylum seekers. The resolution says the State of California does not have authority over immigration issues, but that it falls to the Federal Government. It goes on to say that Shasta County does not have the resources to spare for immigrants, and that indigent non-citizens who are found here, even if they’re here legally, will be sent to municipalities that have declared themselves “sanctuary” cities or counties. Besides a claimed lack of resources, the resolution also cites concerns about drug smuggling and human trafficking. The resolution is sponsored by Chairman Kevin Crye.
