Supervisors Appoint Red White Blue Print Co-Founder To Mosquito Board Despite Lack Of Experience

After rejecting a former Director of Shasta County Health and Human Services for an appointment to the Mosquito Control Board at a meeting two weeks ago, the Board of Supervisors has appointed a man with no experience in public health, biology or any related field. The 3-man majority led by Patrick Jones had turned down Donnel Ewart, who was the only applicant, and re-posted the opening. On Tuesday the same majority gave the seat to Jon Knight, the owner of Northern Roots Hydroponics and co-founder of the Red, White and Blueprint organization. Supervisors Tim Garmin and Mary Rickert both objected, saying they were not even allowed to see the other 3 applications. Knight said he’s researched mosquitoes, and referenced a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation genetically modified mosquito program that’s been the topic of Internet conspiracy theories.
