Supervisors Approve Funding For Body Cameras For Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies

At Thursday night’s meeting, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved funding to purchase body-worn cameras for Sheriff’s Deputies. $2 Million will pay for the cameras and the storage software for a five year period. The footage from the cameras will be uploaded to a portal currently already used by Redding Police that’s accessible by the District Attorney’s Office. Research has shown that use of body worn cameras leads to a sharp reduction in lawsuits and complaints from the public. The board also approved an increase in the Sheriff’s Office budget to allow for an additional Lieutenant and two more Community Service Officers.
