During an evening meeting of the Shasta County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, the board voted to contribute to a $2 Million revenue guarantee fund for United Airlines to begin offering an eastbound flight from Redding Regional Airport. The city has gotten a $750,000 federal grant from the FAA toward the fund, the city is ponying up $100,000 and the county will likely pitch in $100,000 to the fund. Another Million Dollars is being sought from “other entities”. It’s not an unprecedented move, as the county had provided $50,000 to an incentive fund for flights to and from Los Angeles. One notable difference is that the eastbound flight is only outbound; there’s no return flight. The board voted to consider the request.
