Supervisors May Vote To Raise Pay, Add Vehicle Allowance At Tuesday’s Meeting

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will vote Tuesday on whether to give themselves a substantial pay raise. The new salary would be $7,353 per month, and the proposal would also provide supervisors with a vehicle allowance. The cost to taxpayers would be an additional $122,000 for the remainder of this fiscal year and an additional $249,000 for every subsequent year. The staff report says the $88,236 annual salary would bring the county in line with wages in comparable and contiguous counties. According to the State Controller’s Office, Butte County has a population of 205,600 and supervisors make $60,500. San Francisco County has a population of 832,000 and supervisors make only $58,300. As for contiguous counties, in Siskiyou they make $38,900, in Trinity County it’s $35,000 to $39,000 and in Tehama County it’s $20,300.
