Shasta County has more than $10 Million in settlement funds from Opioid manufacturers, and another $38 Million on the way, in addition to whatever comes from another settlement that has not yet been negotiated. The county needs to figure out how it should spend its share of the Billions being distributed nationwide. Although everyone can come up with ideas on how it ought to be spent, it’s not as easy as that. The money must be spent on some form of drug treatment, prevention and education. Tuesday the Board of Supervisors will vote on putting together an ad-hoc committee to mete out the funds.
