The Shasta County Board of Supervisors may fill a couple of key leadership positions in county government during Tuesday’s meeting. Closed session negotiations are scheduled to possibly hire a new County Health Officer and a new County Counsel. Former Counsel Rubin Cruse announced his resignation in February, saying he intended to practice law in the private sector. The county has been without a Health Officer since May of last year when the board voted 3 to 2 to fire Doctor Karen Ramstrom. Though she was dismissed without cause, it’s generally believed to be due to her adherence to state laws related to the COVID-19 pandemic, even though she and her public health colleagues were never more restrictive than the state required. On Tuesday the board will consider at least the third candidate in the last few months. Negotiations will also continue with the Deputy Sheriff’s Association and employees represented by UPEC.
