Thursday Fire Update: Crews Make Progress On Fires Burning Across The North State

There have been thousands of lightning strikes in the last couple of weeks that sparked scores of fires. The vast majority of them were quickly contained by Forest Service and Cal Fire wildland firefighters, but some of them continue to burn. More fires are likely to be smoldering and will be discovered in the coming days and weeks.

The Cedar Fire was discovered two days ago and has burned 105 acres west of Cedar Point Road in the Post Mountain area of Trinity County.

The Dillon Fire off Highway 96 south of Cottage Grove is 9,375 acres and 21% contained.

The Blue Fire northwest of Blue Mountain south of Seiad Valley is 2,055 acres and has forced a closure of the Pacific Crest Trail.

The Peak Fire north of Granite Peak southwest of Trinity Center is 502 acres and 15% contained.

The Lick Fire northwest of Trinity Center is 40 acres and 40% contained.

The Log Fire northwest of Sawyers Bar is 758 acres.

Around 759 acres of heavy timber and brush has burned in the Root Fire a few miles west of Castle Crags. It’s 45% contained.

The Springs Fire southeast of Manton is 85% contained at 33 acres.

A fire that flared up Wednesday morning near the Pit 5 Powerhouse southwest of Big Bend has been contained at 3 acres.

A half acre burned off Branding Iron Lane north of Red Bluff Wednesday night.
