Trail For Young Man Accused Of Fatal DUI Crash Set To Begin In April

Trial dates have been set for a man who was a teenager when he was arrested on felony DUI charges after the death of a passenger in his wrecked car. The crash happened in August of last year on Buenaventura Boulevard near Teton Drive in West Redding. When Redding Fire Department got there the car was in the middle of the road fully engulfed in flames. A passenger, 21-year-old Kannon Wayne Chaney of Anderson, was ejected and was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital. Another passenger was uninjured. The driver, 20-year-old Christian Michael Bennett, faces several felony charges including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and driving without a license. He has a settlement conference in March and a jury trial set to begin April 28th.
