The most popular trails at Burney Falls will be closed this Summer for a renovation project. The McArthur-Burney Falls Memorial State Park will keep campgrounds and some trails open, but the closure of the Falls Loop Trail and the Burney Creek Trail will mean there will be no access to the waterfall or the pool area at its base. The popularity of the attraction has led to a need for repairs and improvements, with an $835,000 project set to begin in early April and continue through the Summer and likely the Fall season as well. The closure coincides with a major highway rehabilitation project planned by Caltrans for Highway 89 that will cause significant delays and road closures.
